"Every parent dreads the thought of their child becoming ill, but the Reid family in Derby had to face an even more daunting reality than most. Ten years ago, they found out that their son, Christopher, was not only ill, but had 'the bubble boy disease'; a rare, life-threatening condition that meant he had no immune system whatsoever. In Beyond the Bubble, David Sykes takes a look at how this ground-breaking treatment saved Christopher's life."

New Videos
As promised, I've managed to upload some of the TV news packages I've created in the last year. You can find them all in the Videos section, or click the thumbnails below. The best among them is undoubtedly Beyond the Bubble; the short documentary I created as my end of year project- I hope you enjoy it.
Next week I plan to upload a showreel that I'm editing at the moment, so be sure to come back soon.

Welcome to SykesSpot (again)
After months of abandonment and neglect I've refreshed this lovely website with the intention of making this a genuine online portfolio designed for the primary purpose of getting myself gainful employment. Over the coming days, weeks, months and years I'll be adding a wealth of new material to the SykesSpot including the best of the work I've done in the last year as part of my Masters degree in TV Journalism, a load of new photos and maybe even my dissertation (if noone else will publish it). Expect new films, packages and documentaries, new reviews, observations and musings, and all kinds of other claptrap.
For the first batch of new additions to the website- check out the photography section for a host of pleasant snaps I've taken over the summer, with some more crackers just like this one:
